 The path chosen by the port is progressive and pragmatic. With 14 metres draft, 15 berths, 77.77 million metric tonnes capacity as well as excellent road and rail connectivity, NMPT is a fast growing port in the west coast of India.

By handling 1.8 million tonnes of LPG which accounts for 40% of LPG handled by all major ports, and exporting 1.90 lakh tonnes of coffee during 2015-16, which is 45% of total coffee exports of the country, the port plays a pivotal and balanced role both in imports and exports. The container traffic is showing upward growth of 21% over previous year . The Port is blessed with excellent rail/road network system connecting the entire hinterland. 33% of the port estate is earmarked for green belt. The port is committed to make the port and surrounding clean and green. Awards like Environment Green Tech Award in Gold category in port sector for the last 4 consecutive years, Aranya Mitra award from State Pollution Control Board are some of the achievements in this field. The Port is also in the process of generating solar energy for meeting the entire power requirement of the Port.
