The idea was very simple, decided,and dedicated to provide Maritime Education and Training to the Indian youths aspiring their career in Merchant Navy. About 02 decade prior, people from the northen region has to travel to west or Southern part of India for Marine Education and Training. This institute was launched with a sole objective to spread/ transfer and create Maritime Education among our society and to provide man power to Indian and International maritime sectors. SIMS, at New Delhi is fully equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure required by a sophisticated Institute of this kind. Not only that, it is backed up by an efficient and competitive team that comprises of full time qualified and dedicated professionals and experts. SIMS has the professional, managers and staff with ample knowledge of shipping and maritime sectors. These faculties has worked in the shipping industry, leisure and Hotel industries. The Institute is managed as an educational charity, with its primary objectives being "to promote the highest professional standards of management and education in the international shipping industry.
The institute was approved by the DG Shipping, Govt. of India to conduct the Maritime courses from in 2003. The institute commenced the very first erstwhile Deck rating course from 03rd April 2003 with an intake of 38 students. All students successfully complected their course and now working on high positions. later deck Rating course mersed into the present GP Rating course from July 2003.. Further we headed for One year Pre Sea Dip. in Nautical Scinence, Advanced STCW, Competency and Basic courses and today the figure has reached to 39 DG approved courses. It is the pride of ours that the institute is the very first institute to start the Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats in Northern region.Post sea courses like ARPA, ROC, OCTO, OCCP and Augmentaion of Fire fighting courses are conducted in addition to above for the seafarers.
